No. 2 for 2010

A day after it was announced that Louisiana linebacker Collin Ellis will be a Wildcat, Florida running back Shontrelle Johnson becomes the second Northwestern commit of 2010.

Shontrelle Johnson, a running back/defensive back from Deland, Fla., became the second recruit to commit to the class of 2010. Johnson chose NU over Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Memphis, which had each offered scholarships.

Johnson, a three-star prospect, is rated by Scout as the No. 89 running back.

Johnson is listed at 5-9 and 160 pounds and was clocked at 4.5 in the 40. In 2008, he had 1,373 yards and 16 touchdowns on 157 carries, nearly netting a first down per run with an 8.7 yard average. He also had 725 yards receiving.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Johnson was part of a Florida High School Athletic Association investigation spurred by Deland High School's recruitment of Johnson when he attended Crescent City. The FHSAA concluded that no recruiting rules were violated, but Deland was docked $2,500 for improper communication with a player from a different member school.
