Receiver Joins Teammate In Commitment

Tonjua Jones joins teammate Fred McConnell with his verbal commitment to Northwestern. Teammates Sam Cheatham and Reggie McPherson will also sign with the 'Cats in February.

"I'm going to Northwestern and I'm very excited," said wide receiver Tonjua Jones.

"I visited last weekend and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to attend a great academic school and play football in the Big Ten.

"My visit went great. Coach (Randy) Walker is a straight forward type of guy and I like that.

"It just came down to Northwestern vs. The Ivy League schools. The Ivy League has great academics but they can't offer scholarships and they don't play in a major conference.

"I'm getting the best of both worlds at Northwestern."

Jones, a 6-foot-3, 180-pounder, from Southfield (MI) Lathrup was a three-year varsity starter on both sides of the ball.

Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Indiana and some Ivy League schools were also interested in Jones' services.
