Northwestern received a verbal commitment from of Southern California's top athletes this past weekend. Meet Ryan Black.

"I committed to Northwestern last weekend," said defensive back, Ryan Black.

"I visited Northwestern last week with my mother and we loved the school. Northwestern is a great academic school that plays football in a great conference.

"Northwestern offers a lot academically that you don't see at other schools. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to receive a Northwestern degree."

Black, a 5-foot-11, 175-pounder, from Pasadena (CA) Poly Tech was a three-year varsity starter. As a junior, Black was named All-CIF and this year he was named all-state as well as being named the most valuable player in his division.

"I had about 2,600 all-purpose yards on offense and I scored 30 touchdowns." Black said.

"On defense, I had two interceptions and I ran one of those back for a touchdown. I returned four kicks for touchdowns as well.

"I'm being recruited as a defensive back." Ryan Black chose Northwestern over Oregon State, Utah and New Mexico.
