"I was given my release and now I'm a soft commitment to Northwestern.
"I'll have three years of eligibility left after I sit out next year.
"Vanderbilt and Nebraska are also in the picture but if my (Northwestern) official visit goes well this weekend, I'll make my commitment solid."
Clayton, a 6-foot, 200-pounder, from Alexandria (Va.) Mt. Vernon was one of the most sought after running back prospects in the nation in 2001.
