Rated the No. 89 running back in the nation, Johnson figured to be an integral part of the 2010 class. Another NU running back target, Marcus Murphy, a three-star prospect from DeSoto, Tex., committed to Missouri this week, so this is the second bit of bad news for NU's backfield. There are now no running backs committed, although that can certainly change.Arby Fields was tops among running backs in carries, yards and touchdowns last season, so the Cat coaches don't seem to have an aversion to getting youngsters carries. In addition, no back averaged more than four yards per carry, so it's not as though someone will command a boatload of carries.
Shontrelle Johnson, a three-star running back from Deland, Fla., has decommitted from Northwestern. Johnson was originally NU's second commit of the 2010 class, committing way back on June 17.
