The Wildcats also couldn't get the ball in the basket most of the game
- finishing just 21-60 from the floor [.350] and 4-26 [.154] from outside
WGN's Dave Eanet started the post game by asking NU coach Bill Carmody what went wrong in the first half...We didn't handle their press. It was as though we hadn't worked against it - we tried to dribble though it too much, I thought that just set the tone for things the entire first half.Any consolation in getting within 5 in the second half?
And then they played zone the entire game, and we were 4 for whatever we got [4-26] we were down by 20 instead of down by 12.
The Turnovers in the first half were just unacceptable. If I was that kind of guy, but not really...What about Jason Burke's coverage of Rick Rickert?
How can you come out to play the way you play and then make a 180 turn you play with such fire and emotion and zest and - I don't know what the story is.He was working hard, but we really didn't have an answer for that kid [Rickert - AP Photo-Brian Kersey Right]. He's just too quick for our guys inside and he's very nifty around the basket.Comment on the 2nd half comeback, particularly the rebounding?
We could never stay in front of the guy. He was always getting position on basic plays that you know. We had a very difficult time just keeping the ball from him. You're down 20 and you start to get more agressive. They controlled the game, but its hard not to have a run. We got the game close enough, maybe you have a shot, down to 5, but you can't be down 25 and expect to come back and beat a team on your own court or away court.
Evan Seacat played a 19 minutes - is that a sign of things to come?If he starts making some shots, but I want to get him in there because eventually he's going to start making those shots.
I don't see any help knocking them down.
Jitim Young, scoring 18 [8-15] was the WGN - 5th 3rd Bank Hard Working Player of the Game. Jason Burke was 8 for 9 from the foul line to score 11. Davor Duvancic and Aaron Jennings scored 8 each, T.J. Parker had 6 points, and Evan Seacat and Mohamed Hachad scored 5.
Rick Rickert with his 4th Career double-double, led the Gophers in Scoring with 22, Maurice Hargrove had 16, and Kevin Burleson shot 12.
NU is now 10-13 and 2-10 in the Big 10 and 9-6 at Welsh Ryan. The next game is against llinois who humbled Michigan State Tuesday.I think I'm coming down with something, I may not be able to make that game. I think the [Chicago] Bulls might want to take our place.
They really looked fantastic, unbelievable last night...Michigan State is a powerful team, and they looked like little boys out there. We have our work cut out for us.
