Ready to See What Notre Dame is All About

Notre Dame will not only be hosting the Michigan Wolverines this weekend, but the Irish will have several top recruits in town for official visits. Cornerback Josh Atkinson from Granada High School (Livermore, Calif.) will be of those in attendance and he thinks that Notre Dame might have everything that he's looking for in a school.

At 6-foot-0, 180-pounds, Josh Atkinson fits the mold of what the Notre Dame staff looks for in its cornerbacks, and at this point, Josh feels that Notre Dame has what he's looking for in a school.

"Notre Dame is No. 1 on my list right now," Atkinson said. "The more I've looked into the Notre Dame program, the more I started to get more interested, especially with the situation at cornerback. They don't have a lot of guys, and that means if I step up, I'll have the opportunity to get some playing time as a freshman. That's definitely a plus. The academics are amazing. I've heard nothing but positive things about Notre Dame."

Josh also saw positive things in Notre Dame's 23-12 win over Purdue last Saturday. The Irish defense had some lapses, but the aggressive play of the defensive backs made an impression on Atkinson.

"I like the direction of the program right now," he said. "The win against Purdue was impressive. They stepped up. They (cornerbacks) were aggressive and stuck their head in there and stopped the run. They were running around. It was impressive. I love that physical, aggressive type of play. That's what I like doing, so I see them as a perfect fit at this point and I can't wait to go up there and take a visit and learn more about the program."

Atkinson won't have to wait long to see the Notre Dame campus. This weekend he and his twin brother will make the trip to South Bend to watch the Irish take on Michigan.

"I've been looking online to see what to expect," Josh said. "I just want to get up there and experience it for myself. I've heard nothing but great things about the campus. I've heard the facilities are crazy. I'm sure it's a great place and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

"I want to see how they run the program and the energy on campus. I want to see what the support for the football program is like. I want to look into their academics and the academic support they have for the football team. I want to see what majors they have, because I want to major in communications or business.

"I'd like to sit down with the coaches and look at some film and have them show me what type of stuff that they do," he explained. "I think I got a feel for what they do from the Purdue game, but that would be a definite plus. I really don't know what they have planned for me up there, but I know I'll be going to the game and I'm excited for that." Top Stories
