Lyons Talks ND Visit

Notre Dame had several top recruits on hand last weekend for the Michigan game and none bigger than Wayne Lyons from Dillard High School (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) Lyon's visit to South Bend was his first official visit, but his second visit to Notre Dame.

Wayne Lyons participated in the Notre Dame football camp last summer. While he was there he had a chance to see the facilities and tour the campus, but he didn't get a chance to feel what it was like on a football weekend. Last Saturday he returned to South Bend and despite the Irish dropping the game to Michigan, he liked what he saw.

"It was real good," Lyons said of the game day atmosphere at Notre Dame. "The fans were crazy, screaming loud, and the stadium was rocking. I didn't do any pushups, but one of the (Atkinson) twins did. It was a good environment.

"They were only a couple plays away from winning that game. If they would have gotten a couple plays, or stopped Michigan from getting a couple plays, they would have won the game. You can't take anything away from them. They came back from 21-7 down, so they played hard. It was a good game.

"Things were good. Everybody was nice to me," he said. "Everyone showed me love out there. There were some people that knew me and were screaming my name out, so everything was good. It was a good feeling, I enjoyed it."

Last weekend Notre Dame also hosted Josh and George Atkinson, as well as Stephon Tuitt. Lyons enjoyed hanging out with them and all three of those recruits have since committed to the Irish.

"I got along with them good," Wayne said. "Me and Stephon had gotten to know each other at the Virginia ‘Top-Gun Camp', so I had known him before. It was a good vibe, and everyone was real cool.

"I was chilling with the Atkinson's most of the time. They were real cool also. They just said that (Notre Dame) felt right and that you could get so much out of Notre Dame. They liked the vibe and the atmosphere and they thought you couldn't beat it.

"It's a good school. They have good football, good academics, good campus, everything is good about it."

Lyons still has four official visits to take, so he wasn't going to make a commitment. He did sit down with Brian Kelly while he was on campus and he liked what he heard from the Irish head coach.

"I met with him on both days," Lyons explained. "They had a lot to say to me, because they're short at the safety spot and they were telling me how important it is for me to come up there. I know I'd have a chance to play right away.

"I sat down with coach Martin before I met with coach Kelly. He was straight up with me and honest with me. They're all about winning."

Lyons will likely take his four official visits to UCLA and Nebraska, Stanford, Tennessee, and Auburn. He will also likely take unofficial visits to Florida, and Miami before he makes his decision.
