New York Back Likes Irish

Notre Dame will be searching the country for tailbacks this year and Syracuse, NY's Mike Hart might be a guy they target. The 5-10, 185-pound prospect had a monster season last year and is receiving letters from many of the top schools in the country.

Mike Hart hails from Onondoga high school is Syracuse New York. He consistently runs 4.5 in the 40 time. He rushed for 2500 yards and 60 touchdowns last year.

Hart has been receiving attention from a lot of the top schools. "I have been receiving letters from about everybody. I don't have any offers yet."

The star tailback doesn't have any camp plans as of yet. "My coach and I were just talking about that. I don't have any plans lined up yet. I am not sure where I will camp."

Hart does know what he is looking for in a school. "The coaches will be important and how well I get along with them. Location will not be a factor at all. Education will be important as well. I want to go to a school with a good reputation."

Hart takes his education seriously with a 3.8 and a 1080 SAT. "I took the SAT last year in 10th grade."

Most players really don't have an idea when they plan to decide at this point and Hart isn't quite sure when he plans to decide. "I don't know. I want to take all my trips and see what is out there. I need to get to know the coaches better and get a better understanding of the schools."

Growing up in Syracuse one would think Hart would be a Syracuse fan. "No, I was a Michigan fan. I like Syracuse and watched them but Michigan was the team I followed the most."

Hart has been thinking about some of the schools that interest him. "Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame and Boston College would be some of the teams I am interested."

Have the Irish contacted Mike? "I receive letters from them but I am not sure if they have been in contact with my coach yet."

Hart obviously is an effective back rushing for 2500 yards and 60 touchdowns last year and he compares his running style to one of the best running backs ever. "Definitely Barry Sanders. I can make people miss but I can run with power."

Playing time is always important to prospects and Hart says playing time will be important. "I want to go in and make an early impact if I can. I hope to play as a freshman and I will be looking for opportunities where I can do that.

Coaching will also be important and Hart knows what type of coach he is looking for. "I hope to find a coach who is interested in a how I am doing in school and someone who is interested in me as a person and not just as a player."

Comments. Mike obviously has the grades and the impressive stats. I expect the Notre Dame staff to look at a lot of tailbacks early. Mike is receiving letters so they are interested in him. He seems open right now and willing to listen to anyone who is interested. I don't expect Hart to make a decision any time soon.
