Morelli likes Irish

Penn Hills high school in Pittsburgh, PA has produced some excellent talent for college coaches over the years. The next great prospect is quarterback Anthony Morelli. The 6-4, 210-pound signal caller is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Is he interested in Notre Dame?

Anthony Morelli had a great junior season completing 78 of his 148 passing attempts for 1880 yards and 21 touchdowns with only nine interceptions.

Morelli is a hot name right now. "I have 17 offers right now. I can't remember them all. Pitt, Penn State, Michigan, West Virginia, Indiana, Virginia, Ohio State, UCLA, Cincinnati, Purdue and Iowa are the written offers I can remember."

Morelli said he might attend the Pitt camp and has been to Penn State's camp in the past. He plans to visit UCLA sometime in May as well and has been invited to the Elite Eleven camp in California.

I asked Morelli what would be important to him when he makes a decision. "The offense they run, the coaching staff, the campus and I want to play for a program with a winning tradition."

Morelli has a 3.0 core g.p.a. and takes his test May 3rd and should qualify.

Morelli does have an interest in Notre Dame. "Yeah, they write me. They are in my top five or so schools. I like their program."

Does Morelli have some top schools now? "I would say UCLA, Pitt, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Texas right now."

Morelli said he doesn't have any plans to make an early decision and he might take all five of his visits. He did say that he wouldn't rule out an early commitment but he wants to get to know the schools better before making a decision.

Comments. Anthony seems wide open at this point. I am not sure he is hearing from Notre Dame as much as he would like at this point but I expect that to pick up soon. He seemed very interested in Notre Dame but Pitt and Penn State and possibly Michigan and UCLA could be stiff competition. Irish Eyes will keep a close watch on Morelli. Top Stories
