While Okotcha had a couple of programs in hot pursuit, he did not wait long after picking up the offer from Brian Kelly.
So what should you like about Bennett Okotcha?
What should concern you?
And what is the bottom line on the newest Irish defensive back pledge.
What To Like
On film, you have to like the way Bennett shows natural instincts for the receivers pass routes. He shows good foot quickness with balance and quickness in his backpedal while being able to flip his hips, turn, and run with receivers.
What May Concern You
Some will question the lack of any of the top programs in Texas offering Bennett. While this is at times an issue, the fact Okotcha plays at a high level in one of the top talent producing states makes this a little less of a concern.
Bennett Okotcha reminds me of another defensive back Brian Kelly coached while at Cincinnati in Mike Mickens. Mickens was a 5-foot-11, 165-pound blue-collar defensive back who was not afraid to hit, but could cover any team's top receiver and shut them down.
Fluid in motion with a great burst to close, Okotcha should be able to enter Notre Dame and provide solid competition early.
