Ohio Safety Hearing from Irish

Several names for the class of 2012 have popped up on the Irish radar as the Notre Dame football staff hit the recruiting trail following the end of the regular season.

James Sanford may not be a name many have heard about during his high school career. However, the Xenia (Ohio) product has some ties to the Notre Dame coaching staff he did not know about.

"One of my coaches, Coach Tolbert, played at Cincinnati when Brian Kelly was the head coach there," Sanford told Irish Eyes. "He played there and Notre Dame heard about me from him and stopped by to learn more about me."

Sanford, who has not been to Notre Dame, is interested in hearing more about the Irish in the months ahead and has already seen a few other programs show interest.

"Ohio State, Purdue, Ohio, Cincinnati, and Michigan State have all shown interest. I went to Ohio State for a game and also Cincinnati this season."

At 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, Sanford projects as a safety at the next level and is looking forward to hitting several camps this summer.

"I attended camps at Ball State and Ohio along with a couple of local camps last summer. I'm not sure where I'll go yet, but I'll look forward to seeing as many programs as possible."

Irish Eyes will continue to follow any development the Irish may have with Sanford in the coming months.
