Recruiting: Defensive Line 2011

The defensive line showed growth during the season despite the loss of Ian Williams for the final month. There should be much excitement in the future as this area looks to use the talent returning and incoming class to build depth.

Set to Leave the Program at Season's End

Ian Williams – Senior

Williams will be missed next season, as he was still twelfth on the team in tackles despite only playing in eight games.

Set To Return

Several members of the defensive front are set to return and should give the Irish depth for the 2011 season. Players who have a double asterisks attached to their names are seniors who have the ability to become fifth-year seniors.

Sean Cwynar – Junior

Bruce Heggie - Freshman

Ethan Johnson - Junior

Kapron Lewis-Moore - Junior

Louis Nix III - Freshman

Emeka Nwankwo – Senior**

Kona Schwenke - Freshman

Tyler Stockton - Sophomore

Hafis Williams - Junior

Brandon Newman – Junior

Irish fans have to be excited when looking at the above list as Lewis-Moore, Johnson, and Cwynar are all set to return. Nwankwo can apply for a fifth year and the depth from the current freshmen and sophomores will need to step up.

Shuffle The Deck

The development of Heggie, Schwenke, and Nix will be areas to watch in the spring, as they will be needed to provide depth in 2011.

Recruiting In 2011

Brad Carrico – ND Pledge - Set to enroll early will provide Carrico to get a jump on what will be expected out of him. Solid prospect that will start off on the defensive side when he reports. Some feel his future is best suited for the offensive line, however, the staff has told the Ohio product he'll start off on defense.

Tony Springman – ND Pledge - Much like Carrico, some feel Springman is best suited for the offensive line. Athletic with a long, lean frame, Springman will be a player to watch early to see if he can push to get into any rotation.

Anthony Rabasa – ND Pledge - A player capable of doing several things at Notre Dame. Can lineup on the edge or drop back into a standing outside linebacker.

Stephon Tuitt – ND Pledge - A player with great size who should be expected to come in and compete early in his career.

Ishaq Williams – The Irish are in a battle for Williams against Syracuse and Penn State. Williams visit was good and Irish fans should know in the next several days if he'll pledge to the Irish during the U.S. Army All-American Game.

Ray Drew – The Irish are still on the board with Drew but not expected to be a player in the final decision.

The Irish are hoping to add Ishaq Williams to their board in the coming days and would find him to be a great addition to the class. Top Stories
