Scoring 16-points on the day, Washington, also pulled down five boards during a hard-fought battle that saw Taft down by as many as twenty points at one time, only to lose 71-70. How did Washington feel his team did?
"It started off pretty bad, but we picked it up at the half and it was good, but we came up short."
While Irish fans are just starting to learn about Washington, those around recruiting circles already know about the potential the hoop loving big-man has on the football field. Several days ago, Washington took a trip to Florida and showed many his skill set.
"I just came back from the Under Armour Combine. I feel I did pretty good there."
Going from football to hoops has slowed Washington in taking any hard looks at colleges. However, he has already cleared things for this spring and summer to visit college campuses and take part in summer camps if needed.
"I have not really looked at any of the colleges that have offered me. I am still looking at all of my options. My AAU coach has already told me I did not have to do all of the AAU stuff, so I am going to try and hit up some Junior Days and camps."
What will Washington be looking for in a school?
"Academics, I will be looking at academics and the majors offered from the schools I will be looking at."
Having seen Notre Dame assistant coach Tim Hinton a couple of times, Washington has the Irish high on his list.
"Coach Hinton has come to a couple of my basketball practice. I really like Notre Dame. They are an up and coming program and I like Coach Kelly."
As for the other schools that have caught his eye, Washington has a short list.
As for the position he will be playing in college, Washington has a favorite, but is also keeping options open.
"A lot of coaches tell me they see me as a defensive end our outside linebacker type. I would like to stay at defensive end, but I will play anywhere they like me."
Scout.com National Basketball Recruiting Analyst, Brian Snow even gave Washington props for his game.
"Football players tend not to get too much love on this part of the network, but Washington deserves it. He is Antonio Gates re-incarnated and was an absolute machine down low for Taft. He has legit basketball skills facing the rim and on the post, but his future no doubt is on the gridiron. Still Washington is a double-double machine and was one of the best performers on the day."
