Early Irish: Kyle Brindza

January enrollee Brindza to compete for Irish kick-off role this spring and throughout his freshman season.

Kyle Brindza (K – 6'2/195): Will compete immediately for kick-off duties but will have to unseat David Ruffer (11 touchbacks) last season…Few question his leg strength but will have to prove he can succeed as a directional kicker as well to unseat the incumbent…Will battle Nick Tausch for both the kick-off and field goal jobs in 2012 – Tausch will enter his senior year that fall...Joins Tausch, Ryan Burkhart, Brandon Walker, and Nicholas Setta as scholarship kickers to sign with the Irish over the past decade…Also expected to compete with junior-to-be Ben Turk for the punting job… One of five Early Enrollees for the spring semester, so the kick-off competition will officially begin this March.

Kelly recruiting profile: Skill
Returning kickers: David Ruffer, Nick Tausch
Returning punter: Ben Turk

Baumhower on Brindza: He endured multiple surgeries to correct a clubfoot as a child, and now he'll be kicking for his childhood favorite.

Berk on Brindza: – Offering a kicker a scholarship prior to his arrival at the school shows the kind of ability the Irish feel Brindza will bring to the program. With David Ruffer returning, Brindza will look to earn the job on the kick-off team as a freshman before competing for the field goal kicker role in 2012.
