All Irish: Chase Hounshell

Former Florida verbal commit Chase Hounshell made it official with his Irish LOI this morning.

Chase Hounshell (DE – 6'5/250): Will first fight for third-team DE reps in August camp before attempting to crack what could be a 5-6 DE rotation over the course of the 2011 season (five DE saw scrimmage action in 2010)…Former Florida verbal commitment also played offensive tackle at Mentor Lake Catholic, Ohio…Part of five-man defensive end haul for 2011 though the Irish should only lose one regular (Ethan Johnson) to graduation after the season.

Kelly recruiting profile: Power
Returning defensive ends: Bruce Heggie, Ethan Johnson, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Kona Schwenke, Hafis Williams (also NG)

Baumhower on Hounshell: His brother Chad came to Notre Dame on a recruiting visit when Charlie Weis was the head coach. Chad's now playing for "ex-Notre Dame head coach" George O'Leary at Central Florida.

Berk on Hounshell: Humble kid who fits several areas, as he is a "RKG" as well as a prospect who could play on either side of the ball. Will get physically better once he's immersed in the Irish strength program.
