Well-rounded Daniels likely to compete at X and W receiver spots to begin his Irish career.
DaVaris Daniels (WR – 6'2/175):
Each of Notre Dame
's four freshman wide receivers earned playing time last year including starter T.J. Jones; three of the four from the '10 class won jobs in kick coverage…6'2" frame could prove a valuable commodity in the future as the bulk of Notre Dame's wide receivers in the last two recruiting classes are smaller targets (only the 6'4" Daniel Smith
is more than a shade over 6'0")…Son of Washington Redskins defensive end Philip Daniels…Could be a major weapon in 2012 if his purported 41-inch vertical leap is close to official…Unlikely to be in heads-up competition with fellow frosh target George Atkinson
as the former appears slated for slot duty if not the offensive backfield (or both).
Kelly recruiting profile: Skill
Returning wide receivers: Austin Collinsworth (WR/DB), Michael Floyd, John Goodman, T.J. Jones, Theo Riddick, Daniel Smith, Robby Toma, Deion Walker (Note: Bennett Jackson has reportedly moved to cornerback).
Baumhower on Daniels: He's a big receiver with soft hands. Like Michael Floyd, his athletic ability doesn't jump out at you, but also like Floyd, he makes plays.
Berk on Daniels: Really excited to see what Daniels does in Kelly's offense as he has the tools to be a "Big-Time" playmaker. Loved the fact the kid went to the UA game and looked to open the eyes of others.
