Quick Hits Class of 2012: Wide Receivers

A look at early names at the top of the Irish recruiting list for the Class of 2012. We continue our look with the wide receiver position where the Irish have targeted multiple players.

If you are a wide receiver and Brian Kelly is after you, he has a lot to sell you as his offense is just starting to take shape and future receivers will have a chance to post some great numbers.

Who are the top names on the Irish board for the Class of 2012 early?  We take an early look at the offers already on the board.

Cayleb Jones: Austin (TX) High School

HT: 6-foot-2 / WT: 185-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  4-Star

The Breakdown: Looking for a replacement for Michael Floyd makes Jones a hot prospect for the Irish.  With his combination of size, strength, and great hands, Jones is a top target for the Irish.

Bryce Treggs: Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco High School

HT: 5-foot-11 / WT: 175-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  4-Star

The Breakdown: The ability to stretch the field with his speed makes Treggs a target the Irish have high on their list.  Once he gets the ball in his hands, look out, as he is capable of scoring each time he touches it.

Amara Darboh: West Des Moines (IA) Dowling High School

HT: 6-foot-2 / WT: 200-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  3-Star

The Breakdown: Much like Cayleb Jones, Darboh has the tools you look for in a main target and the reason the Irish jumped early to offer.

Dorial Green-Beckham: Springfield (MO) Hillcrest High School

HT: 6-foot-5 / WT: 210-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  5-Star

The Breakdown: Great physical abilities make Green-Beckham one of the top prospects no matter what position you talk about. Some are comparing the Missouri native to some of the biggest names to have played the game over the years and the Irish would know how to get him the ball and let him shine.

Thomas Johnson: Dallas (TX) Skyline High School

HT: 6-foot-20/ WT: 175-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  4-Star

The Breakdown: Irish fans have already seen what players like Johnson are capable of doing in Brian Kelly's offense.  Some look at his size, however, with his overall quickness and elusiveness after the catch, Johnson is a star in the making at the college level.

Durron Neal: St. Louis (MO) De Smet Jesuit High School

HT: 6-foot-0 / WT: 185-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  3-Star

The Breakdown: Shows great speed and hands making him a big time playmaker in the making.  Does a great job of catching the ball with his hands and shows another gear once he has the ball in his hands.

Sterling Shepard: Oklahoma City (OK) Heritage Hall Schools

HT: 5-foot-11/ WT: 170-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  3-Star

The Breakdown: High School teammate of Barry Sanders Jr. who can play on both sides of the football.  Son of the late Derrick Shepard who played his college ball at Oklahoma before playing in the NFL for the Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Dwayne Stanford: Cincinnati (OH) Taft High School

HT: 6-foot-4 / WT: 200-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  NR

The Breakdown: There are a few questions about the offer Stanford is supposed to be holding from Notre Dame.  While we have confirmed the Irish are taking an extra hard look at the Ohio wide receiver, it is our belief an offer has not been issued at this time.  While Stanford is building a solid offer list Notre Dame is not on there yet.

Latroy Pittman: Citra (FL) North Marion High School

HT: 6-foot-2 / WT: 200-pounds

Scout.com Ranking:  3-Star

The Breakdown: Some look at Pittman as a safety at the college level and that is what Florida recruited him for as he has already issued his verbal pledge to the Gators.
