Voltz Planning a Visit to ND

The Notre Dame staff will be holding its first junior day of 2011 a week from now. A number of their top prospects for the 2012 recruiting class will be in attendance, including Dan Voltz from Barrington High School (Ill.)

Junior offensive lineman Dan Voltz has already made unofficial visits to Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Northwestern. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman hasn't seen the Notre Dame campus, but he intends to do that next week.

"I'm coming (February) 26th for the junior day," Voltz said. "I'm not looking for anything specific. Really more than anything it's going to be how I feel being on the campus. When I take the visit I want to see if I can see myself being on that campus for four to five years of my life.

"You get that from some schools and some schools you don't get that. I've heard a lot of good things about the campus and about the school, so I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Voltz currently holds scholarship offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Arizona, Cincinnati, Iowa, Boston College, Minnesota, Western Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, West Virginia, Stanford and Michigan. Notre Dane is an offer that he doesn't have, but he's hoping that changes on his visit.

"Coach Martin has been at my school multiple times, as well as coach Kelly, so obviously they're interested," he explained. "Every time I talk to them they tell how interested they are in me and how I'm one of their top prospects in the 2012 class.

"Anytime a head coach can come in to the school to see me, it makes a good impression. Especially coach Kelly with his status of being the head coach at Notre Dame. To make the effort shows that they really care. It means a lot.

"Coach Martin said that he wants to get me on campus before they'd offer, so hopefully they'll offer me at the junior day," he said. "It would mean a lot, because they've been recruiting me for a long time. They've been with me through the entire process.

"Notre Dame is a school that I've always wanted to look into because of their academic reputation combined with being a premier football program. If they offer, it's a school that I'm definitely going to have to look into."

Voltz lists Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa as his top schools at this time, but he admits that there is room for a additional schools.

"I think the three schools that haven't offered that would make it into that list are Notre Dame, Oregon and Ohio State," Voltz said. "That top list is just the schools that have offered me right now. I'm sure if Notre Dame comes through with an offer that they'd be somewhere in that list.

"I'd like to make a decision before the start of my senior season. If Notre Dame comes through with an offer and maybe a couple other schools, I might wait to take some official visits so that I can check out the schools a little more. Ideally I'd want to make the decision before the start of my senior season."
