Murphy has Irish offer

Notre Dame is already well on its way to identifying top recruiting targets for the 2012 class. One of them is Offensive line prospect Kyle Murphy from San Clemente High School (Calif.), who just landed and offer from the Irish.

Notre Dame has been extending a number of scholarship offers over the past few weeks, and the latest prospect to receive an Irish offer is Kyle Murphy (6-foot-6, 240-pounds).

"I was getting a few letters from them and then I got offered by them last Friday," Murphy said. "It pretty much came out of nowhere.

"Coach Denbrock called my head coach and my head coach told me to give him a call, so I called him. I talked coach and he said they had seen my film and thought that I'd be a really good fit there.

"I don't know too much about Notre Dame other than it's a really good football school with a really good football tradition, and pretty good academics," he said. "Other than that I really don't know too much about it since I'm all the way here in California."

It won't take too much effort for Murphy to find out the basics about Notre Dame. His head coach, Eric Patton, played at Notre Dame under Ara Parseghian.

"I haven't really talked about it with him," Kyle said. "I'm sure he'd love for me to go there, because it's his alma mater, but I really haven't looked into it yet. I plan on visiting there sometime this spring, hopefully before my senior year.

"Right now, I'm just trying to find out when all the junior days are. I haven't heard much about Notre Dame right now, but I definitely want to find out more about it."

In addition to the scholarship offer from Notre Dame, Murphy has offers from SMU, Duke, Utah, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Michigan and USC. He's also hearing from UCLA and national champion Auburn.

"It's pretty exciting," he said. "I'm just going to try and have fun with it and not worry too much about it." Top Stories
