McGowan excited to visit Irish

Saturday will find Benny McGowan making his first visit to Notre Dame. Irish Eyes caught up with the Ohio offensive lineman to get the latest.

Offensive guard Benny McGowan is hearing his name mentioned with many programs. One program is Notre Dame, and the Centerville (Ohio) native is excited about his Junior Day visit.

"I've never been up to Notre Dame, McGowan told Irish Eyes. "I'm excited to go up there and to see the campus."

Heading the Irish recruiting attack is running backs coach Tim Hinton.

"I have spoken with Coach Hinton and he said they are excited and looking forward for me to coming up on Junior Day."

At 6-foot-4, 300-pounds, the offensive guard is one of the strongest run blockers in the Midwest from a program that plays a high level of competition.

"I feel the strongest thing about my game is the ability to come off the ball. I do feel I need to work on being better condition to stay low on every play."

McGowan holds offers from Bowling Green and Toledo but is hearing from several Big Ten programs with the possibility of a few offering soon. Does he have a dream school he would like to see offer?

"I would not say I have a dream school. However, Notre Dame is a school I have high interest in attending. I also like all the Big Ten schools."
