Notre Dame recruiting coordinator Chuck Martin has stopped into Montini to see Jordan Westerkamp (6-foot-2, 180-pounds) several times. Unfortunately the two haven't crossed paths, but expect that to change this weekend, when WesterKamp makes a trip to Notre Dame for their junior day.
"I got the invite, so I'll be there this weekend," Westerkamp said. "I'm excited and I can't wait to get up there. Notre Dame has a lot to offer and I'm really excited about it.
"I know that they're a great program and they're a winning program. I know that they throw the ball. I'm just excited about that. I know that I'll learn a lot more about the program when I get down there this weekend.
"I've only been able to talk to coach Martin, so this weekend will really be a learning weekend about Notre Dame," Jordan explained. "I just know general information. I know that's what the junior day is for. I'm really interested in Notre Dame and that it's a place that I'd strongly consider going to.
As a junior, Westerkamp made 89 catches for 1,600 yards and 23 touchdowns. That production has landed him scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Boston College, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Indiana and Minnesota.
"It's exciting," he said. "The coaches tell me that I can make something big out of a little play. I have a great vertical and great speed and explosion off the line. I can think ahead. I can read defenses really well. That's all helped me become the player that I've become."
Westerkamp has already visited Iowa, Purdue and Indiana. After Notre Dame he'll make trips to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan State and West Virginia. After that he should have a pretty good idea who is at the top of his wish list.
"I'm really going to figure that out at the end of this month, because I think I'll be done with all of my visits," Westerkamp said. "After that I'll be able to narrow it down to a top five. But as of right now, I'm really open to everything. I'm still just waiting to see what happens, but I don't have a top list of schools yet."
