Michael Scherer (6-foot-3, 230-pounds) has already taken an unofficial visit to Notre Dame, but that was last fall. This weekend he'll be heading back to South Bend to get a closer look at the campus.
"I went down there for the Tulsa game," Scherer said. "I did get to see the campus and some other things so that was good.
"Their coach has been down to my school a couple of times and I've talked to him on the phone. This will be another chance to go up and check out the school.
"I have not had a chance to talk to them about a scholarship yet," he said. "I think that will be one of the things that will come up when we come down there this weekend. I really don't know where I stand with them right now."
With scholarship offers from Boston College, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska already in hand, Scherer knows that he'll have a chance to play at a top-flight football program. There will be a lot that goes into making that choice and part of the is getting out and visiting as many campuses as he can.
"I'm going to stop by Northwestern on Friday on my way up there and then continue on to Notre Dame on Saturday," he explained. "I've been to Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. I've been to a game at Nebraska. I have not been to Boston College. It's a long distance, but it's something that I'm going ot try to arrange over my spring break.
