McMullen's Eyes Wide Open On Irish

Ohio defensive lineman Greg McMullen may not have been thinking too much about Notre Dame. However, after his Junior Day visit, his eyes have opened with the possibilities of being Irish.

One of Ohio's top prospects in the Class of 2012 is Akron (Ohio) Hoban standout defensive lineman Greg McMullen. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound McMullen has several schools fighting early for his services with Notre Dame being on the outside. That has now changed as McMullen had an eye opening experience during his recent Junior Day visit.

"It was fun and very interesting," Greg McMullen told Irish Eyes. "It was a very good time and they showed us a lot of stuff that was unique."

One thing the Ohio native learned about was the programs deep history and tradition.

"I did not really know too much about Notre Dame before my visit. The tradition they have behind them is very special."

Coach Dave Warinner is heading up the recruitment of Greg, and the two did spend some time together during his visit.

"We chatted for a few minutes; however, I spoke with about every coach at Notre Dame. They see me as a defensive tackle or end. They gave me a lot more information than I had before and really have me thinking about them now."

Before the visit, Greg felt programs like Ohio State and Nebraska were more to his liking.

"Right now I have Ohio State and Nebraska. Notre Dame is now creeping up but I have a few more schools I want to learn more about."

Irish Eyes will be following the developments of Greg McMullen in the coming months.
