Irish Impress Voltz

Notre Dame only had a few prospects in for their junior day that a scholarship offer and Dan Voltz was one of them. The offensive line prospect from Barrington High School (Barrington, Ill.) wasn't sure what to expect from his visit to South Bend, but he walked away impressed.

Although Dan Voltz lives just outside of Chicago, he had never made the 100 mile trip down the toll road to visit the Notre Dame campus. On Saturday, the 6-foot-4, 275-pound offensive line prospect changed that, when he was a guest for the Notre Dame junior day.

"It was awesome," Voltz said. "It was a great visit. I got to talk to the coaches some more and see the campus. It was my first time being out there, so it was just a good to get out there.

"I honestly didn't know if what to expect prior to the visit, because I didn't know much about Notre Dame and I hadn't ever been there, but after the visit they're definitely toward the top of your list…I'll say for sure.

Often times the junior days prospects are rushed through tours and they lack a personal touch. Voltz said his experience was much different than that and that he got out of it what he wanted.

"The main thing I wanted to do was to see the school and get a feeling for it," he explained. "I did that, and I liked it. I got a chance to get to know the coaches and get to know that they're good guys that really care about the players. It really made me like Notre Dame that much more, because I know that you're going to be in good hands if you go there.

"I got to talk to (Coach Warinner) for about a half hour in his office. We didn't talk about football that much. We just got to know each other, just kind of built the relationship. That was the first time that I've talked to him, so I'm going to be calling him pretty regularly each week. I want to continue to build the relationship with him and find out more about how he coaches the offensive line." Top Stories
