"It went really well," Bars told Irish Eyes about his visit to South Bend. "When I went up to Notre Dame the last time, I did so with little expectations as I was about 6-foot-4, 220-pounds. Now, I am a good inch taller and fifty pounds heavier. So I feel it opened their eyes."
Notre Dame coach Tim Hinton is the lead recruiter for Bars and made sure his visit gave him more insight into the Irish program.
"Coach Hinton is the coach who recruits my area. I spoke with him about what I like about Notre Dame and got a chance to see some areas on campus I have not seen before. I have always been impressed with Notre Dame and my father has shown me the basics, however, this time I had the chance to see the insides of the program as I had never seen before. It was a very special trip."
Another thing Coach Hinton did was make sure Blake spoke with head coach Brian Kelly.
"Coach Hinton introduced me to Coach Kelly and we had a chance to talk. Coach Kelly is a great person and coach, and has the program headed in the right direction. It was a special moment for me to meet Coach Kelly."
Another thing that opened the young Bars eyes was getting the chance to speak with some current players.
"We had a chance to sit down and speak with some of the current players and ask them questions about their experiences at Notre Dame and during the recruiting process. That was cool because I have never had a chance to do that before. I found them to be upfront and they gave us some good advice."
A lot has changed since his last trip to South Bend.
"I definitely feel there is more interest now. The fact I have some offers coming into the visit and that fact I have grown places my recruiting by Notre Dame in a new perspective. It was a great weekend and I feel it was a mutual eye-opening experience with Notre Dame. I feel my chances have improved to earn a scholarship now."
With offers from Florida, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Mississippi State, and Arkansas State already on the board, Bars knows his recruiting is going in the right direction. Irish Eyes will continue to check back with Blake with any developments between him and Notre Dame.
