McGowan enjoyed Irish visit

Ohio offensive lineman Benny McGowan did not know what to expect when he made his way to South Bend for his Junior Day visit on Saturday. McGowan spoke with Irish Eyes about his visit and more.

With three offers already in hand, Centerville (Ohio) High School offensive guard Benny McGowan made a Junior Day visit to Notre Dame on Saturday. How did the visit go?

"It went very well," McGowan told Irish Eyes on Monday night. "The weight room and the whole campus are really nice."

One thing the 6-foot-4, 285-pound McGowan learned during his visit was the passion held by those who have attended Notre Dame.

"Notre Dame has a great tradition and people are very proud to be part of Notre Dame. That really impressed me during my visit."

As for the chances of earning a scholarship offer, Coach Tim Hinton was up front and honest about where things stood at this time.

"Coach Hinton said right now they are recruiting more of the outside tackles before working their way inside. He stressed it's a process and I needed to stay in touch with them."

Another possibility for McGowan may come this summer during summer camp.

"If I can make it up to Notre Dame, I will look at camping there."

As for the thing he will always remember about his visit, it came down to the dreams many football players have when looking at the Irish. Top Stories
