Taylor lands offer from ND

Notre Dame has a reputation for producing talented and productive tight ends, and Kent Taylor is aware of that. The standout athlete from Land O' Lakes High School (Fla.) says that is one of the main reasons he's going to take a long look at the Irish.

Kent Taylor (6-foot-5, 215-pounds) had to scrap his plans to attend the Notre Dame junior day last weekend. He was hoping to make a trip to South Bend in order to get a scholarship offer from the Irish coaching staff.

Taylor didn't make the trip, but that didn't prevent him from landing the scholarship offer.

"They offered me (Tuesday)," Taylor announced. "I talked to coach Kelly. He's the one that actually offered me. He said, ‘You're the guy we want, so we're going to offer you a scholarship.'

"I was thrilled. It's Notre Dame. They've had such great tight ends. I was just pretty excited.

"There's serious interest," he said. "For one, all of their games are on TV, which is very cool. Two, the tradition is unbelievable. Three, if you're a top tight end, you want to go somewhere you can get exposure.

"He (Kelly) said that they like to throw the ball to the tight end and they proved that this year. I'll probably wait until I get up there until I really get into their offense and how they use the tight end."

Taylor does intend to make a trip to Notre Dame this spring to watch a couple of their practices, which is a great sign. That being said he has over 20 scholarship offers, so the competition for his signature will be strong.

"It's going to take something pretty special to pull me out of Florida, because all three Florida schools have offered me," Taylor said. "At the same time, if it's special enough, I'm willing to leave."
