"Coach Warinner called my coach today and my coach called me out of music class to tell me Notre Dame wanted to speak with me. It was a quick conversation and Coach Warinner said they wanted me to come over for a visit during the spring and start building a relationship with the staff."
While it is still early, Mahone is not ready to name a leader.
"Right now Notre Dame stands at the top like all of them are. I am not looking to whittle then down right now, as it is too soon to do so. I will start looking to do this more during the summer after making visits to several programs and learning more about them."
While he has never been of the Notre Dame campus, Mahone did catch the Irish in action this past season.
"I have not visited Notre Dame yet. However, I did attend the Notre Dame / Army game in New York this past season."
What does William know about the Irish program?
"I know Notre Dame is a program with a great tradition and it's good to see Brian Kelly there as he turns the program around. He is a great coach and I look forward to seeing what they do this season. I watched Notre Dame this season and they were off to a good start and I feel they had a pretty good season considering they had a new coaching staff."
Being recruited as a running back, the Youngstown (Ohio) Fitch product knows academics are just as important.
"Notre Dame is looking at me as a running back and I'm happy about that. Academics are also very important because football is not always going to be there. It is very important that I get an education. Right now I'm looking at studying business or communications."
Not only was William excited about his new offer, so was his mother.
"My mom was very excited about Notre Dame offering me. She is always excited when I get an offer.
Irish Eyes will stay in contact with William Mahone and his interest in Notre Dame.
