"Coach Cooks is the one recruiting me from Notre Dame," Thomas said by phone. I plan on making a visit sometime this summer."
At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Thomas has the physical size to excel in Kelly's offensive attack and wants to learn more about the offense and Notre Dame.
"I do not really know a lot, which is why I am very interested in going there for a visit. This will allow me to talk with the coaches and players and learn more about the program. I am looking for a program I can trust and one that has stability. I am also looking for coaches that can help me reach the next level after college."
With offers from coast to coast, Thomas knows there is a chance he could be at a distance from home. How will distance play a role in making a college decision?
"Distance does not really matter to me. I can stay on the east coast or go to the west. I just want to get with a program that best fits me, and is a place I can succeed."
One thing Ian already knows is the importance of looking at programs for more than just football. Academics have been stressed by his mother.
"Academics are something my mother has instilled in me. She wants me to attend a school that can give me some life after football. Football is not going to last forever so I plan on studying chemical engineering in college at this time."
On the field, Ian feels he can bring "big-play" ability to any offense with his physical size and 4.5 speed.
"The ability to make plays, playmaking is my thing. I feel I have the ability to make the play when it is needed. However, I also know I need to work on my route running and blocking downfield."
As for the recruiting process, Ian has seen a recent slowdown the past couple of weeks. Nevertheless, he now holds eleven offers.
"The recruiting process has started to slow down a little bit. As of now I have eleven offers, overall, I feel it is going very well."
Irish Eyes will keep an eye on Ian Thomas as he looks to make a trip to South Bend in the near future.
