Mathers still has eyes for Irish

Running back I'tavius Mathers has been busy adding offers to his ever-growing list. One program that he still has his eye is Notre Dame. We check in with Mathers for the latest.

Recruiting interest is growing for Murfreesboro (TN) Blackman running back I'tavius Mathers as he's picked up a few new offers since the last time Irish Eyes spoke with him in early April. Who has joined the list?

"Clemson, Wake Forest and TCU have all offered me," Mathers said by phone on Tuesday night. "Overall recruiting has been going well and I still have interest in Notre Dame."

Irish running back coach Tim Hinton is leading the charge and Mathers feels he's slowly building a solid relationship with Hinton.

"Coach Hinton is a pretty cool coach. Since he is also the running back coach he is able to tell me about how I would be used. He also tells me about the school and how things are in the classroom and Notre Dame's graduation rate."

While Mathers hopes to trim his list down soon, he also knows more programs may be offering.

"I would like to cut my list down to five or ten soon. But I'm not sure what I'm going to do right now."

Soft spoken to a fault, Mathers does not like to shine too much light upon the schools that might make his first cut or himself. The focus now is to take a few more visits and look at where he'll best fit in.

More schools will continue to visit Mathers during the next few weeks...don't be surprised if he adds to his offer list.
