IE Quick Take: Deontay Greenberry

Friday found another top prospect giving Brian Kelly his verbal commitment as Deontay Greenberry became the ninth member of the Irish class of 2012. The four-star Greenberry is one of the key members of the class bringing great physical skill to the offensive side of the ball.

Heading into the holiday weekend Notre Dame found Deontay Greenberry ready to give his verbal pledge to the Irish program. While many felt it was only a matter of time, you just never know. However, the addition of Greenberry gives the Irish another top wide receiver in the class and a possible future star.

What To Like

Built with a long frame (6-foot-3), Deontay Greenberry is the type of wide receiver Brian Kelly loves to have in his offense. With his height and ability to go up and get the ball at its highest point, Greenberry will be a player who will have the ability to follow Michael Floyd in the Notre Dame offense.

What May Concern You

Anytime you are recruiting a kid from a great distance you have to be concerned. However, with his cousin Tee Shepard also headed to South Bend, this does not look to be a factor to be concerned with. As far as skill set, there is not much to be worried about as Deontay has great upside at the college level.

Bottom Line

There might be a few guys given a higher ranking that Deontay, however, his physical build and skill set fit in perfect with what the Irish do on offense. This was a much needed commitment as finding a player capable of coming in early to compete for the spot Floyd will leave behind was a major need. Top Stories
