However, Washington High coach Antwon Jones said connecting the dots may not be the best way to forecast the impending announcement
The drama will unfold Tuesday as Perkins makes his announcement. It is slated to begin at 11:15 a.m. (EDT) in the school's library, and if it is going to be the Irish, it means substantial ground was made up in a short amount of time.
"He's been wanting to get it taken care of for a while now," Jones told IrishEyes.com Monday morning. "That way he can focus on getting better and not have to worry about the pressures that come along with recruiting process, and just make sure he's maintaining his grades."
"I think it's been great for him," Jones said. "He loves the attention, but I liked it when I was going through the process, and there's nothing wrong with that. You just can't let it get to your head too much. I think it changed him for the better because I think he's become more mature. "He's grown through this process. He really had a chance to see what it's like."
Perkins is Scout.com's 27th-rated outside linebacker in the 2012 class, and fits well into a defense as a linebacker with speed coming off the edge.
He registered 63 tackles, including 21 for loss, and 13 sacks as a junior. He was also an asset in the backfield as he carried 85 times for 783 yards and caught 10 passes for 180 yards.
"Not only does (the recruitment) help him, it helps our program," Jones said. "You have people come in from Oregon, from Florida, from Arizona. People came from all over the country to see him, and they were exposed to players in our part of the country."
Scout.com's Allen Trieu will be at Perkins' announcement ceremony and IrishEyes.com will have live updates leading up to and including the decision. Coverage starts at 10:45 a.m.
