Buchtel High coach Ricky Powers said he spoke with his star player about the visit, and he relayed those thoughts to IrishEyes.com.
"He liked the tradition of Notre Dame, the fact that they have small classrooms and, of course, what they bring to the table football-wise as well," Powers said. "He said that about all of them, but he said Notre Dame was a little smaller, a little bit more personable, so he really liked that about them."
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Wilson is deciding between Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State. The trip to South Bend, Ind., was the last one of the three schools, and it gave Wilson the opportunity to build his relationship with the Irish staff.
"Honestly, he liked every coach that he's talked to at the three schools he's gone to," Powers said. "I don't know if one stood out more than the other. He's a little different type of guy when you get to know Jarrod. He looks at things the average kid wouldn't look at.
"His biggest thing was, ‘Hey, could I live here for four to five years?' It doesn't matter if he has a good relationship with the coach or not. He's not going to be with him 24 hours a day. The big thing is how is it going to be to live there? How is the community? How will they accept him?"
Powers said he could foresee a decision coming soon, and the two could meet in the coming days to decide the next course of action, which could include an announcement.
"He likes all three schools, but he hasn't told me which one he likes better," Powers said. "He saw all three campuses for a full day."
