IE Quick Take: John Turner

Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral product John Turner has added his name to the list of committed players for Notre Dame in the Class of 2012. Irish Eyes offers its take on the newest member of the class.

Thursday morning found John Turner on the outside looking in as he headed to the campus of Notre Dame looking to turn the heads of the Irish coaching staff. After going through drills, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Turner walked away holding an offer and looking to make a decision.

On Sunday, Turner returned to campus and gave Brian Kelly his verbal pledge in person.

There is something to be said when you know you earned your scholarship offer from camp. Not only did you pass the test given by a position coach or defensive coordinator, but you also had to pass the test of Notre Dame strength coach Paul Longo in the process.

Having watched Longo work over the years tells me he feels very good about Turner as an athlete and player he can develop.

The one area everyone is going to point towards is the offer list. Temple, Minnesota and Mid-American programs galore showing up as the main programs to have offer will have Notre Dame fans questioning Turner's overall abilities.

As we said above, Turner earned his offer the hard way and you have to fully respect that. As a player you also have to like the ball skills shown and the willingness to be physical on the field.

Turner will enter Notre Dame as a safety and some feel he could grow into an outside linebacker. However, Brian Kelly is looking for big physical safeties and Turner after getting under Paul Longo's program could stay at safety. Top Stories
