IE Quick Take: Jarron Jones

Rochester (NY) product Jarron Jones added his name to the growing list of committed players for Notre Dame in the class of 2012. Irisheyes.com's Dave Berk offers his first take on verbal commitment No. 14 for Brian Kelly.

Jarron Jones ended his recruitment Monday, giving his pledge toNotre Dame. Jones had opened his recruitment over the last few months, looking at several programs following his initial verbal commitment to Penn State in April. Jones, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman gives the Irish their fourth Scout.com five-star pledge and is the latest example of Brian Kelly's ability to recruit high level players from across the country.

WHAT TO LIKE

On film, Jones is a man among boys as he's been able to consistently dominate the level of competition. Quick, explosive, and powerful, Jones has all the tools to be a high level player on either side of the ball in college. Great physical size will allow Jones to enter Notre Dame and fight for a position on the depth chart.

WHAT MAY CONCERN YOU

Jones had previously issued a verbal pledge to Penn State back in April only to back away from the Nittany Lions. Irish fans will have in the back of their mind that Jones has already changed his mind once before and will not rest easy until signing day.

BOTTOM LINE

Jones is a player Irish fans have hoped would add his name to the class for several weeks now. While many felt it was just a matter of time before Jones became Irish, there was always some concern if his visit was good enough to pull him away from his home area.

As a player Jones has the abilities to play on the edge in the Irish 3-4 defensive scheme or move inside and play the nose. He also could move over to the offensive side of the ball if needed and be a high level offensive lineman.

I feel Jones will get his first look at the nose guard position when he arrives on campus, and will have the ability to make the two-deep quickly.
