Thomas Herring is a wanted man. Herring does not know his stats but that doesn't seem to matter to some of the best programs in the country. "I have offers from UCLA, USC, Oklahoma, Arizona State, Oregon State, San Diego State and Nebraska. That is all I can think of right now," said Herring. Herring also said that Oklahoma and USC have called him as well.
At 290 pounds, Herring plays defensive end. "Yeah, I play defensive end. I know I had quite a few sacks but I'm not certain on the number."
Academics are something that Herring takes seriously. "I have a 3.3 core GPA right now. I haven't taken my test yet. I plan to take that in June."
USC was lucky enough to get him to camp this year. "I liked it a lot. I've been there a bunch of times. I don't think I am going to camp anywhere else."
Herring says he doesn't mind leaving the area to go to school. "It's not a problem at all. It doesn't matter to me. My Mom has told me a few times that I should get away for school. Some of my family want me to stay close to home so they can watch me play."
Herring is definitely interested in Notre Dame. "Oh yes, they are one of my top schools. I am very interested in Notre Dame but I haven't heard from them. I would really like to hear from them. I've always liked them. I have been to Indiana and it was nice. It's cold but I liked it. I grew up watching Notre Dame. Mark Bradford was recruited by them last year and my coach said that their coach is a great guy. He said the he was the sharpest guy he has ever met. I hope they start recruiting me."
USC remains the team to beat in this race. "They are the school I'm most interested in right now. I've been to quite a few practices and I've had to chance to interact with the coaches and the players. I think I fit in well at USC."
Does Herring have a top five at this point? "Probably not five but USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan, Florida State, Florida, Georgia Tech and Georgia are some schools I'm interested in."
Comments. Thomas is a very bright kid. Very polite and very well-spoken. He would fit in well at Notre Dame. I know the Irish will recruit him. Don't get panic because Notre Dame hasn't contacted him yet. They likely haven't been to the high school yet. Once they do I'm sure they will start recruiting him if all the academics are in order.
