Jeff Schweiger has about 20 offers so far. "USC, Notre Dame, Colorado, Washington, Michigan, Arizona State, Oklahoma and San Diego State are some of them," said Schweiger. "UCLA, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Oregon State are some of the schools that have called me."
Schweiger had an impresive junior season. "I had 138 tackles, 13 sacks and 10 tackles for loss. I play more of an outside linebacker position but I will play with my hand down in college. I've been working at camps doing that and I'm better with my hand on the ground. My film doesn't show my speed. When I come off the ball I have to look outside to stop a sweep before I go in for the pass so I don't come off the ball fast because of that." I've seen his film, he comes off the ball just fine. I can see what he means but he can really run.
The top defensive end prospect has been to USC camp already. "I went there. They are one of my top schools. I liked the coaches there. They have goals set and they are focused on winning. Coach Carroll is a great guy and I like their defensive line coach. I think I fit in well there. I might go to another camp, maybe Oregon but it won't be another Nike Camp."
Schweiger knows this decision will be hard and plans to take all his visit. "I will take all my visits. I want to go to an overall good team. The coaching staff will be important. The atmosphere at the school will also be important. I'm also looking for a school with some exposure. My family and I will sit down after my visits and talk about it. Distance isn't a problem for me. They just want me to go where ever I'm happiest."
The Irish are one of Schweiger's top schools at this point. "I like their history. I've watched Rudy so many times. I wanted to go there after watching that movie. The name Notre Dame sticks out. They are on TV all the time and they have history. I've received a lot of letters from them but no calls yet."
Does he have some top schools at this point? "Yes I do," said Schweiger. "I like USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, Washington, Colorado, UCLA and Arizona State the most right now."
Comments. USC seems to be the team to beat at this point. The Irish haven't had their say however. I think he will visit and I think he will be very impressed with Notre Dame. Will that be enough to pull him from the west coast? I am going to guess that the winner of the ND/USC battle might have a big impact on his decision.
