Michael Massey had a solid junior season. He recorded 81 tackles, nine sacks and over 20 quarterback hurries. His brother Pat Massey was recruited heavily by Notre Dame but chose Michigan over the Irish. "He loves it, he has only good things to say about Michigan but he also only has good things to say about Notre Dame. That was very, very close," said Michael Massey about his brother's decision.
The younger Massey is quite a football player in his own right. "I have offers from Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Tennessee, Miami of Ohio, West Virginia, South Carolina, Wake Forrest and Louisville right now. I have received a lot of calls so far."
Two offers Massey is waiting for are Michigan and Notre Dame. "I'm not sure how interested they are in me. I've got a lot of time and I'm going to camp at both schools this summer. A Notre Dame coach stopped by two weeks ago and said their camp begins on June 29th so I will be going to that. I will also camp at Michigan. I will probably get in the car and visit a lot of schools over the summer."
It appears Massey has a lot of interest in Notre Dame. "What's not to like? Everything about it is great. Their tradition and what they did last season was impressive. Their coaching staff seems to know what they are doing. The academics are amazing, it's an amazing school."
What will be the important factors for Massey? "The academics will be the most important. The tradition of the school and their past. Also, I will look at the coaching staff and see if I fit in there well." Massey said he has a 2.5 in his core and is waiting for his test results.
An early decision could be on the way. "I don't know. I might make an early decision. I have time to wait. I can't really name some top schools because I'm not sure who is really interested right now. I know Ohio State and Pittsburgh are really interested. I might go out and see Pittsburgh. I might make an early decision, we'll have to see."
Comments. I think Massey is waiting to see what Notre Dame and Michigan do. I think Ohio State is very much in the picture and so is Pittsburgh. I get the feel though that if Notre Dame offered, Michael might be the Massey the Irish actually get. It's early and nobody is sure the Irish will offer. If they do, I expect them to be in his final two.
