Dan Connor is a 6-3, 215-pound linebacker from Strath Haven HS in Winningford PA. The star prospect rushed for 1500 yards and 29 touchdowns last year and recorded 160 tackles and 3 interceptions on defense as a junior.
Connor's phone has been ringing and the mailman has had an extra load to carry each day to the Connor home. "I have 35 offers right now," said Connor. "It's pretty much all the schools in the Big 10, Big East and ACC. I also have offers from schools like Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Notre Dame."
Connor is obviously a wanted man. He also plans to make an early decision. "I would like to get it done before the end of the season. I will probably narrow it down to five if I have that many that I am still interested sometime this month. I won't be attending any camps but I will probably check out a few schools this summer. I need to talk to my parents about that before I will know where I am going."
Notre Dame certainly impressed Connor and his family. "I loved it, my parents loved it too. Notre Dame is huge around here. I'm Irish Catholic so I've always had a lot of interest. Coach Willingham and the whole staff are great guys. I spent about two hours with Coach and we talked about how I fit in there. They told me that I could play any of the three linebacker positions."
Connor has an idea what will set the schools apart. "I just want to find a school where I fit in well socially with the students and team. I want to find a good staff that will be there for a while. Football is obviously important and I want an academic life I can handle."
As for his top schools, Connor has three right now that he is most interested in. "People ask me that all the time. It's hard to come up with a top 5 or 10. Right now, it's pretty much Penn State, Notre Dame and Michigan and then everyone else is behind them. That might change but these are the three I think about most."
Connor said he would take his time and might visit some more schools this summer. Expect a decision sometime in August.
Comments. Hard to say where he is leaning. If he visits Notre Dame again this summer, I think they have a great shot. He seems pretty torn between the three schools right now.
