After the Irish increased its interest and offered late during the season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound four-star receiver added them to his recruitment, and Friday he had an in-home visit with coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Chuck Martin.
Westerkamp described his visit as "great," and also provided a little more insight via a text.
"They said the really want me, and could take my commitment right then and there if I said I wanted to (commit)," Westerkamp texted IrishEyes.com. "They said they need me and want me."
Westerkamp added he plans to make a decision shortly and then enjoy the rest of his senior season.
The Irish already have commitments from a trio of receivers in Deontay Greenberry of Washington Union High (Fresno, Calif.), Chris Brown of Hanahan (S.C.) High and Justin Ferguson of Flanagan High (Pembroke Pines, Fla.)
