Update: William Mahone

We get the latest from Notre Dame running back pledge William Mahone, who talks about Gunner Kiel being part of the class, and rumors that another program has been working to get him to visit.

Youngstown (Ohio) Fitch running back William Mahone reacted like nany Notre Dame fans across the country Tuesday with official news five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel had joining the ranks of the Irish.

"It's a great feeling for our class," said Mahone. "It will make for a better race at quarterback for this upcoming season as we've got Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix back and I know Notre Dame is high on Everett Golson.

"We now also have the No.1 quarterback in the country in our class so it's going to be a fun spring to see what quarterback jumps onto the scene."

With the recent developments of Ohio native Taylor Decker flipping from the Irish to Ohio State, Mahone's name has also been thrown around as a possible target for the Buckeyes.

Is there any truth to the rumors?

"I've never talked with Ohio State recently," said Mahone. "I've not spoke with Coach (Ed) Warinner or Coach (Tim) Hinton since they left Notre Dame. So there is no truth to that."
