Young Keeping an Open Mind

O'Dea high school has sent the Irish players like Demetrious DuBose and Carlos Pierre-Antoine. O'Dea has another top prospect in Chancellor Young. The Seattle, WA prospect is 6-1, 200 pounds and is being recruited as an athlete by most schools.

Chancellor Young comes from good pedigree and his father was Charles Young--former USC All-American tight end. Young plays both ways for O'Dea and most schools are recruiting him as an athlete. "They really haven't said what position I'm going to play. I can play wide receiver or safety but I think I will end up at safety in college," said Young.

Washington is the only school who has offered so far. "Washington has offered. Oregon and Nebraska have called me. I get a lot of letters from schools and a lot have been keeping in contact with me."

The Irish have been keeping in contact with Young and he is interested. "I get a lot of letteres from them. They are a great program. Their tradition is outstanding. If they show more interest in me I will have great interest in them."

Young said he doesn't plan to attend any camps this summer. "I'm running summer track so I won't have a lot of time. My best 100 meters time is 10.49 and my best 200 time is 21.8"

The future is on his mind and he takes academics seriously. "I'm not sure what my core is right now. I scored an 1140 on my SAT. My future is important to me. I'm looking for the best opportunity for me in academics, athletics and socially. I'm really interested in the best opportunity for growth."

Young says distance won't play a major factor in his decision and he will take some visits before he makes his decision.

Comments. Young seems wide open at this point and didn't have a list of top schools. He is a smart kid and if the Irish show interest, I think he will have a strong interest in Notre Dame. We'll have to wait and see how interested Notre Dame is. Top Stories
