All Irish: C.J. Prosise continues its signing day coverage with a look at a player who could help the team's specialty units prior to breaking into the defensive two-deep.

C.J. Prosise (Safety – 6'2" 192 pounds): Though next season's 2012 starting Irish safeties are all but set in stone, Prosise enters the program at a position of need with no proven backups among the ranks….Quickness, coupled with experience at wide receiver give him a leg up on most incoming athletes, though Prosise's level of high school competition might negate that incoming advantage…An immediate candidate for the program's moribund punt return unit…Though he's tall enough to be categorized as a Big Skill player, it's unlikely Prosise will move to the front seven during his college career (of course, any versatile aggressive athlete could fill the Dog linebacker role at a given time)…His addition to the class provides a much-needed dose of speed and athleticism on the back end after the loss of elite athlete Harrison Smith.

Kelly Recruiting Profile: Skill

*Veterans returning at Safety: 5th-year Jamoris Slaughter; senior Zeke Motta; junior Austin Collinsworth; redshirt-freshmen Chris Badger (2010 class) and Eilar Hardy. Potential 5th-year senior Dan McCarthy could return to the Irish for 2012 as well.
(*denotes eligibility entering 2012)

Fellow incoming safety prospects: John Turner, Elijah Shumate, and Nick Baratti

Berk on Prosise: Another long athlete who could play on either side of the ball. Look for Prosise to get a look in the return game as well as at safety. Willing to mix it up, Prosise on film shows the ability to plant his foot and jump cut receivers. Work in the Irish strength program will help him be more flexible and a better player.

Dohn on Prosise: He played in ambiguity in the middle of Virginia at a private school, but he is good enough to player receiver or safety. He is heading to Notre Dame to play defense, and has good ball skills and reads plays well. He also could impact the return game for the Irish. .
