IrishEyes.com continues its signing day coverage with a look at the only certain offensive tackle prospect among the 2012 Irish pledges.
Ronnie Stanley (Offensive Lineman – 6'6" 285 pounds):
The only definitive offensive tackle prospect in the 2012 class, the four-star Stanley will likely serve a one-year apprenticeship on the Irish scout team with ample aid from strength & conditioning coach Paul Longo… Stanley could enter competition for a two-deep role by 2013 and with senior-to-be Zack Martin
potentially moving onto the NFL after next season, a competitive situation could materialize among four or five players (detailed below) for two starting tackle spots in '13…Rated the 11th best OT prospect by Scout.com
Kelly Recruiting Profile: Power
*Veterans returning at offensive tackle: Redshirt-junior Zack Martin; redshirt-sophomores Christian Lombard and Tate Nichols; redshirt-freshmen Jordan Prestwood and Nick Martin (I'm projecting the latter though he could also play guard).
(*denotes eligibility entering 2012)
Fellow incoming offensive line prospects: Mark Harrell and possibly DL/OL prospect Jarron Jones
Berk on Stanley: Good frame to work with who can play tackle or guard at Notre Dame. Will need to add physical strength but has the tools to be a very solid player during his Irish career. Should be fighting for playing time by his second year in the program.
Dohn on Stanley: His commitment is even bigger after Taylor Decker jumped to Ohio State. Stanley can get markedly stronger but he has the length and feet to play offensive tackle.
