Latham Holds High Interest In Irish

Notre Dame pulled two top prospects out of Indianapolis (IN) this past recruiting class. Could Darius Latham be another Central Indiana player headed to South Bend? We check in for the latest.

After signing 2012 freshmen Sheldon Day and John Turner, Notre Dame is again putting in the work to attract talented players from Indianapolis.

Darius Latham, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound lineman out of Indianapolis (IN) North Central High School could be the next top prospect from the central part of the state to attract the eye of the Irish.

"Yes," said Latham when asked if he's interested in possibly moving north for college. "I went up to Notre Dame for a camp this past summer and also visited for their game against Michigan State."

While the Irish have yet to offer, Latham has already posted verbal offers from Michigan State, Michigan, Mississippi and Northwestern to name a few.

"I'm up to nine or ten offers," said Latham. "I have no favorites right now as I'm looking at academics and looking to see where I best fit in."

Who is leading the way for the Irish with Latham?

"Coach (Mike) Elston is my recruiter," Latham said. "I plan on making another trip there for a Junior Day or spring practice. Right now I'm in basketball (season). After our game on Saturday we'll have two more games until sectionals start." While Latham knows his future is on the gridiron, he did not grow up rooting for any football teams.

"I grew up watching basketball," he said. "So I was not thinking too much about football. I know I'll always miss basketball, but you've got to do what you've got to do." Top Stories
