Baker Still Interested In Irish

Indianapolis (Bishop Chatard) defensive end/tight end Ryan Baker has 19 scholarship offers. Notre Dame isn't one of them but the Irish are still high on this All-American candidates wish list.

Indianapolis (Bishop Chatard) defensive end Ryan Baker is without question one of the top five prospects in the Midwest as well as one of the "Top 100" prospects in the nation.

We haven't been able to catch up with Ryan lately but his father, Jerry Baker, was gracious enough to give us an update.

We asked Ryan's father which schools are in the running for his son's services.

"Ryan has about 19 scholarship offers right now. More than 60 schools have shown interest.

"Ball State, Boston College, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Western Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, Stanford, Michigan and Michigan State have all offered a scholarship," said Jerry Baker.

"Stanford wants Ryan for both basketball and football. We're hoping to visit Illinois this weekend.

"We haven't ruled any school out yet. I know Ryan is interested in Stanford, Boston College, Purdue, Michigan and Indiana. He's also very interested in Notre Dame."

Ryan Baker is a fantastic athlete that could play on either side of the ball at the next level. On film, Baker looks like a natural pass rushing, run stopping defensive end. However, several other scouts feel that Baker could be a better tight end prospect.

Baker is the top prospect in the Hoosier State and come February he'll have his pick of schools. We will try and get comments from Ryan Baker in the near future. Top Stories
