Berk's Breakdown: Riley Ferguson recruiting analyst Dave Berk looks at offered quarterback prospect Riley Ferguson of Matthews, North Carolina.

Prospect: Riley Ferguson
Position: Quarterback
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2 | 190-pounds
High School: Matthews (NC) Butler HS

Offers To Date: Notre Dame, Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, South Florida, Virginia Tech.

On film Ferguson shows the ability to stretch the pocket and expend the play. This has always been a key ingredient in the success of Brian Kelly's offense in the past and something that has been missing since coming to Notre Dame.

As for throwing the football you can see minor mechanics needing work. However, he throws a nice looking ball with above average touch.

While he's capable of tucking the ball and running it is not his strength. Work is needs in the way Ferguson sets his feet and squares his shoulders.

One of the better high school quarterbacks I've seen on film in the 2013 class to date. Shows the willingness to put the game on his shoulders and lead his team. Possesses key skills (such as the ability to extend a play) quarterbacks have used to find success under Kelly in the past.

Early Thoughts

The Irish have seen some success pulling players out of North Carolina and will need it here as several top programs in the South are after Ferguson early. Getting Ferguson to campus may be a chore and if he doesn't visit this spring we don't expect him to look at the Irish as a serious future destination. Top Stories
