Berk's Breakdown: Cody Thomas

The number of quarterbacks holding offers from Notre Dame continues to grow as Texas native Cody Thomas adds his name to the list. recruiting analyst Dave Berk takes a quick look at the Colleyville, Texas product in his latest breakdown.

Prospect: Cody Thomas
Position: Quarterback
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5 | 220-pounds
High School: Colleyville (TX) Heritage HS

Offers To Date: Notre Dame, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida International, Michigan State, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, USC, Vanderbilt.

Thomas shows a quick release, good arm strength and touch on all the throws needed to be successful. Does a solid job in setting up in the pocket in shotgun formation and gets rid of the ball quickly once he spots an open receiver. Shows the ability to extend the pocket to keep a play alive and get his shoulders squared before making the throw.

Most plays Thomas uses a quick release, however, there are times when he shows his arm length and is long in his delivery of the football.

Thomas is the first quarterback film I've watched since Brian Kelly took over at Notre Dame where I could really see many of the same traits of former Kelly quarterback Tony Pike. Both players are about the same in physical stature with many of the same mechanics. Having seen Pike in high school, Thomas is already more advanced at the same stage and plays a higher level of competition.

Early Thoughts

With a very impressive and growing offer list, Thomas is a player the Irish will have to fight to get out of the Midlands area of the country. A visit to campus is a must with the Irish coaching staff showing the Texas native how successful he could be in Kelly's offensive attack.

The most interesting fact on the quarterbacks offered so far by the Irish are the different skill sets each brings to the table. If Kelly and staff are looking for the type of signal caller who has enjoyed success in the system in the past, Thomas looks to be one of the better fits. Top Stories
