IE Quick Take: Jacob Matuska

Columbus (OH) product Jacob Matuska became the second player to give Brian Kelly his verbal pledge in the class of 2013.'s Dave Berk offers his first take on the future Notre Dame defensive end.

After getting off to a slow start Notre Dame is back in the game adding their second pledge for the 2013 class in Columbus (OH) Bishop Hartley High School tight end/defensive end Jacob Matuska.

At 6-foot-4, 245-pounds, Matuska is a player Irish Eyes and will be keeping an eye on in the coming months.

Has the physical build Irish strength coach Paul Longo likes working with who could play on either side of the football. Early recruiting rankings have him projected as a tight end; however, it looks as if the Irish are penciling him in as a defensive end.

The biggest concern Irish fans may have with Matuska is the fact he's right in the back yard of Ohio State. Despite this fact, we don't feel OSU or Matuska will be courting each other in the coming months.

Matuska plays for one of the better prep programs in Ohio and has grown from a 220-pound player two years ago to his current 245-pounds.

As a tight end, Matuska plays in a running offense and shows the skills to be a top blocker with above average pass catching abilities. As a defensive end, we see a rangy player who in Notre Dame's defense projects as a five-technique player who also is athletic enough to drop back in short coverage areas and make a play. Top Stories
